Try and face the hive South or East so early morning sun strikes the entrance. 2. A wind break is ideal, located on the North or West , a tree line, fence, or building to block winter winds and/or provide evening shade if you’re in a hot climate. 3. Don’t be at the bottom of a hill or in the gully, cold air settles,

I found a recipe on one of the emails that allowed me to feed them during dearth. The recipe had many ingredients, which when combined allow the bees to make honey and not eat their supply. I am going to invest in the back issues of Mother Earth News as find many a good articles and hope to find it again. Do you have an idea of the recipe I am talking about?.

I love the water idea(never heard of it before but I will implement it this coming week). Is it okay for me to use an old pan and just put some clean water in it? Or will the marbles(stones)in a shallow clear plastic container work. Thank you much.

So upset and this is my third attempt. I’ve been doing everything correctly as far as I know. I made a candy board and on top of that we had a box full of wood shavings for moisture control and we wrapped the hive in the black roofing paper. The bees looked like they were working and frozen in time. Some had their heads in the comb, some looked like they were walking around. Some of the comb was wavy in one spot and some other spots looked like someone pressed on the comb and dented it. Any ideas or suggestions?

Would this be a good place to put a hive?

However, skunks sure can be trouble. Can’t blame them..they are just trying to survive.

Raising your hive up off the ground so the skunk would have to reach up and expose it’s tender belly is a good deterrent.
